Carrie Armitage

Carrie Armitage

An interview with Carrie Armitage,

Carrie Armitage attracts favorable critical analysis at every turn in her career. She has worked professionally as a pianist, keyboardist, arranger, composer, producer, vocalist & sound designer on numerous projects out of Montreal, Toronto and Los Angeles.

“Armitage smoothly transverses musical genres.
Her work combines elements of
Ambient, Progressive Rock,
Jazz, Classical and Pop.”
Music Connection Magazine
Los Angeles

Born to musical parents, her father a jazz pianist, her mother a singer/dancer, Armitage was immersed in both the business and the creative side of the arts from a very young age. She studied both classical and improvisation, moving into composition during her early days as a professional musician.

Her debut CD, In Search of Simplicity, was well received by university and community radio - play listed at stations internationally. The buzz In Search of Simplicity experienced was largely due to enthusiastic radio programmers. Several women’s oriented programs have featured the CD in Europe, the U.S. and Canada.

Armitage is currently working on a new full length solo CD, The Spirit of The Times – recording is in progress and the planned release is late 2009.

TM: How long have you been on Twitter?
CA: I joined Twitter in January of this year.

TM: How many tweepes follow you?
CA:
2657

TM:
How many tweepes do you follow?
CA: 2265 – I don’t follow people who are only trying to sell stuff, but in general I enjoy the connections with the Twitterverse immensely

TM:
What made you sign up to Twitter?
CA: I just started exploring social networks this year and found Twitter to be a best in class example of a worldwide communication forum.

TM:
How often do you ‘Tweet’?
CA: Everyday

TM:
How has Twitter been beneficial to you as a singer?
CA: It’s a phenomenal way to explore the world of international independent artists. I have been inspired by people I’ve met, I’ve collaborated with people I’ve met and I’ve formed business relationships with people I’ve met. My life is richer with Twitter! As a singer/recording artist, I’ve had an audience on Twitter without doing the showcase circuit which has provided instant feedback to me as I’ve worked through the creative stages of my new solo CD. That feedback has nudged the direction of the project a couple of times.

TM:
If you had to recommend one person that your fans should follow on Twitter, who would it be and why?
CA: I would have to say @Deepak_Chopra – I’m not indicating that his teachings are by any means without complexity but even if you get glimpses of truth in what he speaks of, universal love & truth, the power of intention, enlightenment – you will be enriched by his wisdom.

TM:
Have you had real friends from Twitter?
CA: Absolutely! I’ve made the best of friends on Twitter.

TM:
Can you give a specific example of how Twitter has made a difference to your life as a singer?
CA: It has left me feeling connected to a greater good, a pool of people who care about the planet and its inhabitants. I grew my Twitterverse with love. I handpicked every person I follow and I don’t allow negative energy in unless I feel there might be a chance of adding some happiness to someone’s life. They need to show me their potential. As a singer, what more could you ask for than being surrounded by nothing but wisdom, curiosity and love. It is in every track on my new CD. Twitter has been my studio mate all year. It is part of the project.

TM:
How do you see your use of Twitter evolving in the future, if at all?
CA: I’m pretty happy with how I’m using it now. My intention has never been to sell my art through Twitter because I believe art needs to sell itself. Art should grow organically. What Twitter does is it widens my sphere of influence so that more people KNOW I’m a recording artist from there it’s up to them to decide if they like my work. I’m primarily on Twitter as a person, a citizen of Planet Earth, but there is a natural inclination to include an ‘about me’ in my tweets in the spirit of Twitter where people are trying to get to know one another, what makes people feel alive, and what keeps them up at night.

TM:
Your Twitter name?
CA: @CarrieArmitage

TM:
Your website address?
CA: www.carriearmitage.com

TM:
A short description about you:
CA: I am a Canadian recording artist, musician & producer. The focus of my current work, The Spirit of The Times, is to incorporate the love that flows freely through the ether into my music in order for people to feel it and think about how they might use it in their lives to make the world a better place.
